Regional rivalries are common, and the best ones are the the good-natured ones. Here, at what we like to refer to as the Crossroads of the Kootenays we’ve got a healthy amount of self-esteem and the same is true at the Castlegar News. We don’t feel we’re better than any of our regional neighbours… just… maybe… a little better... situated.

There’s a fair bit going on here of late… the staff is growing to the point where it’s outgrowing the banner at the bottom of this page.

The number is up because so are the responsibilities. Consolidation is underway – a certain amount of business relating to Nakusp and Rossland is now being looked after here and the increase has led to the hiring of an Operations Manager named Jennifer Cowan.

Jennifer brings a resumé riddled with experience and success to her latest challenge and she’s been warmly welcomed to the offices here within the Fireside Inn.

Like anyone stepping into a new environment, Jennifer is eager to get the ball rolling, to start meeting people and establishing contacts.

First and foremost, she plans to solidify the position of the Castlegar News and expand on its commitment to serving and informing the community.
