Arts around: a smattering of entertainment activities in the Valley

Stuff stocking, get a concert

The Travelers are back for another fundraiser concert for the Community Arts Council, Jan. 18, 2014 at the Capitol Theatre at 2:30 p.m.

Paul Kurucz and his daughters along with the Port Alberni Pipe Band present “A Splash of Tartan, A Tribute to Robbie Burns”.

With the wonderful response from their first concert the Travelers will take you down a different path on memory lane with an interactive folk twist.

Tickets are $10 and are available At Rollin Art Centre and Happy Soles. Tickets are on sale now, great for Christmas!

Art workshops this weekend

Rollin Art Centre will be holding a two-day art workshop with artist Cynthia Bonesky, Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday,  Dec. 15, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Space is still available.

Mixed Media Techniques for art journaling, card making, scrapbooking and fine art.

A complete supply list is available at Rollin Art Centre when you register. Cost is $50 for the weekend.

Milk cartons needed for art

The Rollin Art Centre is looking for donations of washed milk cartons (any size) and glass jars (baby, spaghetti or jam jar sizes). These recycled items will be used as luminaries for the children next year, at our Celebration of Lights Festival. We will be collecting them all year to have many to give to the schools to make the 2014 event even bigger.

Get ready for book sale

The Rollin Art centre’s annual book sale donations begin Tues. Jan. 7, 2014. After that date, please drop off all your gently used books at the Rollin Art Centre in our book box under the stairs.

Please note that books cannot be accepted before Jan. 7. Thank you for your continued support.

Art banners available

If you are one of the lucky ones to have painted a banner for 2013, they are available for purchase now at the Rollin Art Centre for $25. Located at the corner of 8th and Argyle, the gallery is open from Tue. -  Sat. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gee whiz, it’s the Wiz!

Portal Players Dramatic Society presents one of the most beloved musical journeys, The Wizard of Oz, early next year.

Dorothy and the entire cast of Oz characters will appear on stage at The Capitol Theatre starting on Feb. 21.

The Wizard of Oz will be a spectacular production unlike anything ever mounted by Portal Players before, say the directors.

Tickets are available at the Rollin Art Centre and the Capitol Theatre Box office. Advanced tickets are $22 for adults and $17 for children 12 and under.

Rollin to close for Christmas

The Rollin Art Centre will be closed for its annual winter closer, Dec. 24 and reopen Jan. 7, 2014. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year. Happy Holidays!
