Auditions for groups and individuals to perform at the ceremonies welcoming the Olympic flame to the lakecity in January are coming up this Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon.

The ceremony to welcome the torch to the lakecity will be approximately two hours long, says the City’s events and marketing coordinator Kim Emsley-Leik.

Seventy minutes of the ceremony is scripted by VANOC and the other 50 minutes of the evening will feature local entertainment.

The lakecity’s Olympic Torch committee is looking for a wide variety of entertainment suitable for the winter performance in sub-zero temperatures that will take place outdoors in the Stampede Grandstand on Jan. 28, 2010.

The committee is looking for high energy, entertainment-based performances incorporating lots of music, color, and dancing and theatrical arts, says Emsley-Leik.

The auditions take place in the Gibraltar Room, Thursday evening, Nov. 19 starting at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 22 starting at 2 p.m.

For more information on the auditions, Emsley-Leik can be contacted by e-mail at 2010@williamslake.ca or by phone at 250-392-1771.
