Top-ranked teams advance to Olympic curling pre-trials finals

The Number 1 ranked teams at the Olympic curling pre-trials in Prince George will play for the first Olympic trials berths for men and women granted at the Road to the Roar.

The top-ranked, Kelowna-based squad skipped by Kelly Scott is scheduled to meet Crystal Webster of Calgary in the A Event final of the 12-team women's competition on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Scott and Webster won their respective A Event semi-final matches on Wednesday to advance to the final.

Trailing 8-7 in the 10th end, Scott scored a pair to pull off a 9-8 victory over Sherry Anderson (Saskatoon). Minutes before Scott's game ended, Webster celebrated an 8-6 win over Ottawa's Rachel Homan.

The two games were held as part of Draw 7 at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Also on Draw 7, in a battle between Winnipeg teams, top-ranked Jeff Stoughton doubled Mike McEwen 4-2 to advance to the 12-team men's A final, scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Stoughton was scheduled to meet the winner of the other men's A Event semi-final, a match between Brad Gushue of St. John's, Nfld., and Pat Simmons of Davidson, Sask. on Wednesday night.

The three other men's Olympic trials berths will be granted on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (B Event final), Saturday at 10 a.m. (C Event final No. 1), and Saturday at 5 p.m. (C Event final No. 2).

The three other women's Olympic trials berths will be awarded on Friday at 1 p.m. (B Event final), Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (C Event final No. 1), and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (C Event final No. 2).
