Chargers chase down silver

The Vernon Battery Chargers placed second and earned Most Sportsmanlike Team in the Valemount Midget House Hockey Tournament last weekend.
The Chargers bowed 3-0 to Valemount in Sunday’s final with Vernon’s game MVP award going to Dixon Louis.
Vernon Battery got goals from Shota Maeda and Robert Romei in a 7-2 round-robin loss to Valemount. Game MVP was goalie Clayton Coles.
The Chargers opened with a 5-2 win over McBride, goals coming from Jordan Johansson, Drake Kosick, game MVP Maeda, Colin Smith and Henry Deuschl. Smith had two assists.
Game MVP Romei pulled the hat trick as the Chargers stuffed the Vernon Sabres 11-4. Kosick and Maeda each scored twice, while Nick Kelsey, Smith, Deuschl and Louis contributed singles.
The Vernon Midget Female Warriors struck silver in a Burnaby tournament, falling 2-1 to the Vancouver Angels in the final.
Summer Jesperson, assisted by Hailey Silocks and Kate Alexander, scored for the Warriors, who got strong netminding from Kirsten Wiltshire.
The Warriors blanked Burnaby 3-0 to guarantee a spot in the final, getting two goals from Mikyala Head and one from Mackenzie Barrie. Kylie Assi earned the shutout.
In earlier preliminary play, the Warriors stopped Surrey 4-1 on goals from Bobbi Jones (2), Meghan Tetrault and Cassie Bosworth.
Vernon then iced Chilliwack 6-2 with Faith Durning (2), Jesperson (2), Silcocks and Tetrault handling the offence.
The Warriors bounced North Shore Winter Club 5-1 on goals from Natalie Johnson (2), Barrie, Megan Johnson and Jesperson.
Flyers soar past Stars
The Denny’s Flyers won a pair of Bantam games, icing the Lumby Stars 6-3 Sunday at Wesbild and grounding the North Okanagan Knights 5-3 Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.
First star Lucas Mitchell pocketed 2+1 as the Flyers stopped Lumby, who got sensational goaltending from Corey Tinney. Connor Butte-Landsfried with 1+2, Brandon Tarasenko, Travis Webster and Justin Ramsey rounded out the Flyers’ offence. Hard-working Phil Wilson had two helpers.
Kyle Weston (2) and Bradley Haslam replied for the Stars.
Webster, with 2+1, Adam Tyk, Butte-Landsfried and Tarasenko led Denny’s past the Knights, who got two goals from Levi Poirier and one from Austin Prevost.
Red Bulls snuff Flames
The Vernon Red Bulls also rolled a pair, defeating Salmon Arm Overwaitea Flames 8-3 and locking up the Vernon Authentic Plaque & Trophy Blazers 5-3.
Russell Day provided 3+2 as the Bulls stopped Salmon Arm. Brett Shaigec added 3+1, while Brock Wagner and Brennan Marin had singles.
Day, defenceman Layne Greene and Shaigec took the Source For Sports Guts& Glory three stars.
Connor Smidt scored twice as the unbeaten Bulls beat the Blazers on Sunday. Wagner, Sean Greene and Taylor Elliot also scored for the Bulls, whose first star was Josh Gosselin with stellar two-way play.
Parker Gray, Aaron Keryluke and Rowyn Lewis-Hatherley replied for the Blazers, who got two assists from Krister Work. Justin Hiscoe took first star for the Blazers.
The Blazers earlier clipped the Corbett Office Supply Sharks 4-3 with goalie Rodger Sewell earning first star in the win.
Gray (2), Brendan Zupp (1+2) and Lewis-Hatherley handled the Blazer offence, while Kyle Evans, Mary Rice and Nikolas Wasylyk replied for the Sharks.
In Atom Super League action, the Sladen Moore Gladiators got a hat-trick from Stephan Richard in a 7-3 win over the previously undefeated Bannister Heat Sunday at Wesbild.
Cody Webb, with a pair of goals, Tyler Semeniuk and Evan Winther also scored for the Gladiators Landon Currie pulled the hat trick for the Heat.
In Saturday action, Alex Laurila and Currie each bagged two goals as the Heat stopped the M&K Ready-Mix Blackhawks 7-2 at Wesbild.
Josh Tyk, Nicholas Mann and Nick Mitchell completed the Heat offence. Mac Gilchrist picked up two assists.
Ben Schleith had 4+4 as the Kelowna Stars bottled up the Kamloops Saints 10-4 Sunday in the A final of the Vernon Play Your Face Off Pee Wee Rec Tournament.
Jordan Barr bagged 4+2 and Kyle Dennis added 3+2 as KT’s gonged the Adams Disposal Lightning 8-4 in the D final. Alex Strutt also scored for KT’s, while Ryan Pelkey had two goals for the Bolts, who got singles from Brandon DeJong and Dylan Oberle.
The Five Star Awards blanked the Interior Savings Credit Union Phantoms 5-0 in the E final on goals by Kobe Romanovitch, Brian Ferguson, Solomon Ivanoff, Brennan Seltzer and Tanner Graham.
