Thunder Cats roll past Knights

The Creston Valley Thunder Cats counted four unanswered first-period goals as they brushed back the North Okanagan Knights 5-2in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Enderby Arena.

Tyler Leuenberger, Sean Maktaak, Travis Ludwar and Blake Kirkham recorded singles for the 9-7-0-1 Thunder Cats before Colin Minardi, assisted by Mike Mace and Brodie Clark, responded for the Knights (2-15).

After a scoreless second period, Creston completed its offence as Ryan Hewitt, from Robbie Stuckey and Kane Dawe, beat netminder Chris Solecki (13 saves).

Damon Brown (unassisted), followed by Mace, assisted by Sean Zuk with 41 seconds to play, rounded out the Knights’ attack.

Creston keeper Sunny Gill made nine stops for the win.

Leuenberger and the Knights’ Colin Marcetta dropped the gloves in a second-period scrap.
