Drivers lap up awards

The Village Green Inn was the setting for the 2009 Whelen All American Series NASCAR Street Stock annual banquet Saturday night. The Okanagan Street Stock Association honored drivers and teams with the following awards:
Hard Luck: was a tie between #50 Tim Comeau and #48 Will Hexemer.
Most Improved: #99 Sarah Cornett-Ching.
Most Sportsmanlike: #70 Thor Gorseth.
Most Sportsmanlike Team: Comeau’s crew.
Best Appearance: Cornett-Ching.
Best Crew Chief: Joe Cornett-Ching for his fantastic efforts in keeping his daughter Sarah’s #99 car well tuned, and for his contribution to the racing community in general.
Most Dedicated Racer: Cornett-Ching for her outstanding dedication to the Street Stock Society.
Rookie Of The Year: Gorseth.
Tech Award: Lou and Robert Mathews for their cooperation and expertise in ‘teching’ all the cars for legality and rules.
The association ended the night by presenting the 2009 NASCAR Sun-Valley Speedway Championship to #89 (Super) Dave Haworth, who also won the Whelen All American Series NASCAR B.C. Championship.
This is the second year in a row Haworth has won both the B.C. and Sun-Valley crowns. He will receive the provincial title at the NASCAR banquet in North Carolina, Nov.13.
Along with Haworth, three other drivers received NASCAR certificates for finishing within the top-500 in North America – #57 Les Hein, #67 Jeff Cameron and Comeau.
The association sent a big thank you to all its fans for their support, and to all the teams and drivers for putting on an exciting show.
