The Dr. Lee Dental/Checkers defended their title in the Penticton Thanksgiving Soccer Tournament by shading Williams Lake 3-2 (shootout) in Monday’s women’s final.

Down 1-0, Delinah Erbenich scored twice to give Dr. Lee the lead, only to have Williams Lake tie it with five minutes to play.

The extra 20 minutes solved nothing, and goals by Cindy Worth, Lisa Arrotta, and Erbenich sealed the 3-1 shootout win.

The defence of Bobbi Cormier, Dana Reid, and Cindy Worth, along with Jill Rintoul and Irene Arrotta in the midfield, kept the Pub Crew in all their games.

Vernon opened the tourney with a 2-2 draw with Kamloops (Erbenich both goals), and then beat Penticton 3-0 in minus 3-degree temperatures Saturday night. (Erbenich 2, and Jacquie Hansen) before playing Williams Lake to a scoreless draw in their final round-robin game to win the pool.
