Fusion flying
Marley Wournell scored twice as the Fusion grounded the shortstaffed Blazers 3-1 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Competitive Division action Thursday night at Marshall Field.
Wournell scored once off a sweet feed from Wendy Martins, who later converted an awesome header off a perfect cross from Stephanie Curtis.
Michele Wernike had a great defensive game, while Curtis showed good control on midfield as Fusion improved to 5-8-1.
Toni Bensmiller took a pass from Jane Higgins at the 15 minute mark to give the 11-2-1 Blazers the lead. The Fusion responded at 40 minutes to tie the game.
In the second half, the fatigued Blazers (eight players) were unable to hold off the Fusion, who scored at the 50-minute mark and sealed things with their third goal in the dying minutes.
Signi MacNeill, Amanda Pecor and Chelsea Ricketts were solid on the Blazer defence in support of keeper Katie Hatten.
In other action Thursday night, Kayla Palfrey supplied four goals as the Little Tex Outlaws shut down Coe United of Salmon Arm 7-0 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Competitive Division action Thursday night at Marshall Field.
Emma Dolcetti, Kim Burns, on a header off another header by Dolcetti, and Lyndsay Lee completed the Little Tex offence.
The Outlaws (10-2-2) displayed brilliant passing and movement into space all night. Gineil Ferrier earned the shutout, making several key saves that kept her team calm. United fell to 10-4.
Little Tex missed Kelsie Kirby, who had knee surgery Thursday, and will be out for the rest of the season.
In other play, Dr. Lee’s Dental/Checkers bounced the Vernon Celtics 7-0.
Bobbi Cormier, Andi King and Alana Rehman, each with two goals, and Jacquie Hansen, scored for the floss crew.
The dental crew (10-3-1) showed great control in front of keeper Christa Rivard. The Celtics dropped to 3-10-1.
