Griffith opens strong

Tyrel Griffith (Twin Anchors Houseboats) made a perfect tap for a deuce in the second end on the way to gonging Darrell Houston (Excalibur Printing) 7-4 in the Capri Insurance game-of-the-week during Wesbild Super League Curling action at the Vernon Curling Club.

After Houston pulled even with a draw to the button in three, Griffith blew the game open with a three-pointer in four.

Houston managed a steal of one in six, but Griffith shut the door with a deuce in seven.

Kevin Geistlinger (Brown’s Stone and Garden) used a steal of three in the first end to ice Jennifer Gerow (Bear Paw Lodge) 9-1.

Jim Cotter (skips stones) broke the game open with a deuce in four on a delicate backline tap-out.

Gerow then missed a tough draw in six, leaving Geistlinger another steal of three.

After a year of being mocked for their record against the Super League’s ladies teams, Doug Kuhn (Sunshine Autographics) brushed back Breanne McLean (Sneakers) 5-2.

Kuhn was able to force handshakes after taking points in the first four ends. McLean held her team in with some great skip saves, and got her team on the board with a deuce in five.

After a slow start, T.J. Perepolkin (Royal York) got a circus shot from third Dave Merklinger to count three points in the fourth end to ground John Gardener (Sladen Moore) 7-3.

Merklinger, who switched stones with with Perepolkin in four, deflected off his own rock to push a Sladen Moore rock off the button to count three.

Perepolkin added a deuce in six to ice the game.

Simone Brosseau (DCT Chambers) used a single steal in seven and a steal of two in eight to to shade Blake Kimura (Schoenne and Associates) 6-5.

With Brosseau up by one after two ends, Kimura replied with three straight singles, only to have Brosseau come back with points in the final three.
