Royal couple pays tribute to troops
VICTORIA – Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, attended a remembrance service at Christ Church Cathedral Sunday, to hear a sermon on the sacrifice of military families and pray for soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
Hundreds of people waited in the sunshine for a chance to see and greet the royal couple, who spent a few minutes chatting and shaking hands before returning to Government House and their only afternoon off from official duties in the six-day Canadian visit.
Prince Charles took time after the service to talk with Canadian Forces personnel in attendance.
As part of the church service, the Prince of Wales dedicated stained glass windows that commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Anglican cathedral in downtown Victoria, and also the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of British Columbia.
The Prince and Duchess wrap up their visit to B.C. on Monday with an inspection at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt before flying to Ottawa and returning to England.
