Vernon RCMP had a man in custody following an attempted robbery at a downtown bank Friday.

Police were alerted to an alarm at the Scotiabank in the 3200 block of 30th Avenue just before 2:25 p.m.

“It is my understanding that a teller was handed a note by a male,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesman

“The man did not produce a weapon.”

He left the bank empty-handed.

Police immediately cordoned off the area surrounding the bank, which was closed temporarily.

A man was arrested but Molendyk could not say on Friday if the man was responsible for the attempted heist.

“Our investigation is still in the very early stages,” said Molendyk prior to The Morning Star’s deadline.
