Special Olympics holds book sale
This year’s Special Olympics fundraising book sale promises to be the biggest one yet.
The sale, which takes place from Thursday to Saturday at the Village Green Mall, will feature more book titles than previous years.
“It’s the largest book sale we’ve ever had, the largest volume of books and the largest amount of tables,” said organizer John Topping.
It’s anticipated there will be more than 10,000 titles to choose from, and it will take 24 trucks to transport all of them to the sale.
Topping hopes the sale will mean record funds raised.
“We always try to make it bigger. We hope to raise a minimum of $4,000 with a good turnout and lots of hard work,” he said.
The funds from the sale will allow Special Olympics athletes to continue to train in proper facilities with the right equipment.
Topping said the sale of each book brings the goals of Special Olympics athletes a little bit closer.
“Every book sold is one more step in our ability to provide for the needs of the intellectually challenged athletes from Vernon and the surrounding area.”
