An alert RCMP officer is being credited with the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

While on routine patrol, an officer noticed a vehicle being driven near 32nd Avenue and 38th Street Thursday at 1:51 a.m.

“The vehicle was then parked and persons departed from the vehicle,” said Sgt. Dave Evans, with the Vernon detachment.

“The RCMP located a male and female in close proximity to the vehicle that was on the information database as stolen.”

The 2000 Chevrolet S10 truck, which was reported stolen Sept. 14 in Vernon, has been seized for examination by the forensic identification section.

The two suspects — a 38-year-old Vernon man and a 38-year-old Vernon woman — were arrested and they remain in custody for a court appearance.

“This is just one example of the positive results that happen from members proactively patrolling the streets of Vernon,” said Evans.
