An Alexis Park woman endured a terrifying ordeal straight out of a horror movie early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of two people trying to break into a house around 3 a.m.

A shotgun was discharged, breaking a window in the back door of the residence, and the pair tried to enter the home, according to RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

The middle-aged resident screamed at the would-be entrants to leave, and she heard them depart soon after.

Molendyk said there is no reason to believe the resident of the home would be targeted by someone with a shotgun.

“It was a shock to that individual who was in the residence,” he said.

“Police are looking into this to see if it’s a case of a person looking for residents who had been renting the place earlier or if it was a case of the individuals targeting the wrong house for some reason,” said Molendyk.

Police dispatched search dogs, but they were unable to track the scent of the suspects. Nearby residents were questioned but no reports of gunshots were reported.

With no initial indications of why the home was targeted, police also don’t know why the shotgun-toting pair left.

“Don’t know whether it was the individual from within the residence hollering at them or they realized they made an error, we don’t have the suspects so we don’t know,” said Molendyk.
