The remains of the human skull found by Okanagan Indian Band members April 26 are back in the hands of police.

Members of the RCMP’s South East District major crimes unit are now scanning missing person files to help identify the victim.

The search was cut in half last week when scientists in Prince George determined the skull was that of a male, between the age of 20 and 30.

“Because the skull was found with some teeth, our investigators are now working through dental records,” explained Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk, who explained the skull discovered was a partial skull, that the lower part and jawbone were missing.

Vernon RCMP have finished their investigation at the scene, which was off Antoine Road, off Head Of The Lake Road.

Band members found the skull in a wooded, busy area while out hiking.

Vernon Search and Rescue personnel went back to the scene Saturday to conduct a search for more bones and clothing but did not find anything new, according to the police.
