Joan McIntyre brings back her singing workshop, Finding Your Own Voice, for people who have always wanted to sing but are sure they can’t.
“Besides being fun, singing is a natural therapeutic healing release which most of us deny ourselves,” she said. “Some of us have been told we can’t sing and thus don’t; others simply have decided that they have no voice and shut up. Still others sing, but with feelings of apology and regret.”
McIntyre said singing can be one of the most satisfying modes of self-expression and is a traditional and established form of worship around the world.
The workshop includes a variety of exercises, some using voice, some not, to discover the joys of singing and overcome fear, embarrassment and reluctance. Participants discover the confidence of singing in their own, natural voices.
McIntyre is a professional singer and college instructor.
“I have facilitated this workshop so many times and in so many places that I have actually lost count of the numbers. I have learned that the exercises offered in this workshop are equally helpful for well-established singers and those who believe that they can’t really sing,” said McIntyre. “What we do in this workshop is to expand the self-imposed limits the participants have placed upon their own voices.
“The process is intense, funny and hugely satisfying. Everyone is capable of finding their own natural voice.”
Finding Your Own Voice takes place Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Essentialist Church of Christ (2001-45th Ave.,Vernon). The cost is $75. For more information and pre-registration call 250-549-7107, 250-542-1908 or e-mail caeli@telus.net.
