Fans of the former TV series Street Legal are in for a treat when the show’s writer/creator reads from his latest work in Vernon Nov. 17 and 18.

“William Deverell is a colourful B.C. character who is sure to entertain,” said Huguette Allen with the Okanagan Shuswap Green Party, which is sponsoring the event.

A journalist for seven years, and a Vancouver lawyer who has served in more than 1,000 criminal cases, including 30 murders, Deverell is now a best-selling, prize-winning author of more than 15 novels, plays, TV and radio productions.

He is also a founder and honorary director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association and has served as visiting professor of creative writing and chairman of the Writers’ Union of Canada.

Deverell will read from his latest hilarious mystery, Snow Job, which features his beloved character Arthur Beauchamp.

In this book, the retired lawyer and courtroom star moves to Ottawa to follow his wife, elected as the first Green MP, but soon finds he hates the politics, the town and the snow.

After the reading, Deverell will answer questions related to creating books and TV series, and will be available to autograph books.

He will be at the Vernon library Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m., and in the cafeteria of Okanagan College, Kalamalka Campus Wed. Nov. 18 at noon.

All are welcome.
