Spread the word at book fair
Gallery Vertigo is about to open the page on its second annual book fair.
The group exhibition, taking place Nov. 17 to Dec. 12, includes paperbacks and hardcover books by local writers, as well as broadsheets and comics, chapbooks and journals, found books, artist book works, CDs and DVDs.
The event is designed to offer gallery visitors a warm festive atmosphere in which to enjoy books of all kinds, said Vertigo curator Judith Jurica.
“It’s a great opportunity to purchase books by local writers, or just drop by to browse and enjoy some interesting books and music.”
Any writers/artists interested in submitting their work for the fair should deliver it to Gallery Vertigo by Saturday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.
Writers, musicians, filmmakers and publishers are asked to submit up to 10 copies of their books or CD/DVDs.
Artists are also welcome to submit one-of-a-kind book works or book-related artworks.
The book fair launch takes place Nov. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
“This festive launch party is in honour of the talented writers and musicians among us,” said Jurica.
Master of ceremonies Kevin Mcpherson Ekhoff, an instructor at Okanagan College and a writer and publisher in his own right, is hosting the event, featuring both well-known and emerging authors interspersed with lively musical entertainment.
Readings by many of the writers involved in the exhibition will take place from 1 to 2 p.m., and a book signing will be from 2 to 3 p.m.
At 3 p.m., children can gather round for a story circle with local storytellers and children’s authors reading from their collections.
“This is your chance to meet and chat with the writers among us, and to have books signed, either for your own collection, or as a personalized gift,” said Jurica.
Admission is by donation and everyone is welcome.
Gallery Vertigo is located at #1, 3001 31st St., downtown Vernon.
