Organizers of the Komasket Musical Festival say the three-day event is staying put.

In the wake of the Terrace Mountain forest fire, organizers had looked at using Silver Star Mountain Resort as an alternate site for the festival.

Spokeswoman Devaki Thomas said Monday that the festival will be held at its regular spot, 13 kilometres down Westside Road of Highway 97 at Komasket Park.

“Everything is under control, we’re back on-site,” said Thomas. “The air is nice and clean out there. The festival is happening on-site, as planned.”

The event goes Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the gates for the weekend opening Friday at 2 p.m.

Organizers had some concern about attendance dropping after word of the Terrace Mountain fire spread south to the Lower Mainland, where the festival has been well advertised in advance.

“We’re expecting a fair crowd from the Lower Mainland, about 20 per cent of our crowd last year was from there,” said Thomas. “We are expecting more this year. A lot of the artists playing at our festival performed at the Vancouver Folk Fest and other big folk fests around Western Canada, so we’re banking on that.”

Last year’s festival drew an estimated 3,000 visitors.

Among the acts slated to perform this weekend are two-time Grammy Award-winners Arrested Development from Atlanta.

Tickets for the festival, which will be held at Komasket Park, are still available through TicketSeller.

Camping is available on-site but camping tickets can only be bought at the gate.
