The newly formed North Okanagan Sports Council is hosting an open house Oct. 28.

The goal of the event is to introduce the new sports council and the benefits sport organizations can expect from membership.

“The North Okanagan Sports Council aims to initiate increased communication between sport and recreation organizations, the public, business community and local government,” said Val Trevis, president.

“There are opportunities that could greatly benefit the entire community through increased communications and the promotion of sport and recreation.”

The purpose of the council is to advocate for sport and promote sport development in the North Okanagan, advocate and support the development of stable and ongoing funding for sports and facilitate effective communication among sport groups and other key organizations, including government.

It also plans to be a community resource for sport information and to represent all sport interests.

The open house runs between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Vantage One Soccer Centre, 6601 Okanagan Landing Rd.
