Poultry barn planned

Spallumcheen residents will soon see a new poultry barn after council approved a variance to the side yard setback.

The applicants requested the variance to construct a metal poultry barn on their property on Parkinson Road.

Planner Greg Routley said residents to the south would be most affected so the plan is to build on the northern part of the property.

In addition, the exhaust system will be put on the north side of the building and a shelter belt of large maple and spruce trees will be added on the south property line for screening.

Coun. Carolyn Farris wanted to ensure the promise to install the exhaust on the north side is carried through and Routley assured her the items would be attached to the permit and included in the site plans.

The 12-by-37-metre poultry barn will be built behind an existing house and between an existing cow barn and the south property line.
