Summerland athletes excel at Ironman

Several Summerland athletes put themselves through the grueling Subaru Ironman Canada course on Sunday.

The event drew 2,601 participants from around the world, with 2,381 finishing.

Jen Annett finished the race in 126th place, with a time of 10:19:37. She was the first of 17 participants in the women’s 18 to 24 category.

Daryl Wilson had a time of 11:59:32. He was the 753rd finisher and placed 122nd out of 354 in the men’s 40 to 44 age category.

Patrick Amundsen finished 2,086th overall with a time of 15:17:59. He was 69th out of 102 participants in the men’s 55 to 59 age category.

David Gubbins was the 1,561st finisher in the event. His time was 13:41:53, putting him in 13th place out of 28 competitors in the men’s 18 to 24 category.

Jennifer Davy was the 2,136th finisher, completing the race in 15:32:58. She was 63rd out of 73 in the women’s 25 to 29 category.

Julie MacDonald finished with a time of 15:43:43. She was the 2,173rd finisher and was 15th out of 17 in the women’s 18 to 24 category.

The course began at 7 a.m. with a 3.8 kilometre swim, followed by a bicycling portion of 180 kilometres and a run of 42.2 kilometres.
