Pikes swim in international meet

On the weekend of July 11 and 12, a number of Pikes swimmers travelled to Colville, Washington to compete in the annual cross border swim meet.
Head Coach Amanda MacDonald and Megan Crofts earned gold medals, while Emily Laidman picked up a bronze. Both MacDonald and Crofts had five first place finishes and one second. Laidman placed first in the 50m freestyle and100 m butterfly, third in the 100 IM and 50m butterfly and fourth in both the 50 and 100m breaststroke races.
The youngest Pike in competition, Richter Heintz, swam well in his 25m “turtle” races and helped the older boys win two third place ribbons in relay events.
Mason Heintz swam a best time in four of his six races. He came in fourth in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle and fifth in the 100m IM and 50m backstroke. Noah Bettauer also swam 4 best times and J.J. Henderson had five best times taking many seconds off in each race. Annalise Spence also had five best times, with a third place finish in the 50m backstroke
Emily Henderson had best times in all six of her races, earning a first place ribbon in the 100m butterfly and third in the 50m butterfly. Shannon Clarke represented the Pikes for the 3rd year in a row in the gruelling 400m IM, showing her talents in endurance racing.
Assistant Coach Heather Laidman swam well and, as always, helped the younger swimmers and exemplified team spirit. Elliot Clark, finished second in the 100m IM and 50m and 100m backstroke, third in the 100m freestyle and fourth in the 50m breaststroke. Peter Kennedy finished first in the 50m backstroke, second in the 50m and 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke and third in 50m freestyle.
On the same weekend, Joel Desjardins and John Crofts travelled to Revelstoke for a different meet. John placed first in the 100m backstroke, second in the 50m freestyle and fourth in the 100m freestyle race.
The Pikes have recently enjoyed their annual float down the channel and movie night. They are training hard for the Regional Meet to be held in Kamloops on the weekend of Aug. 8 and 9.
