The credit union dragon boat team Paddle Your A$$ets paddled their way to second place in a Kelowna dragon boat festival this past weekend.

Paddler and credit union member service manager Kyle Ellis said the dragon boat team is in its fourth year, winning the festival outright in last year’s competition.

The crew practices every Wednesday evening on Skaha Lake.

Ellis said the credit union was looking for a team building activity to do with staff, and found out about dragon boating through the Penticton Boathouse.

She noted that two-thirds of the team is made up of credit union staff, and the rest are family or friends. Ellis had no experience with boats before joining the team.

“It was all brand new to the majority of us.”

Ellis said the team has 20 regular paddlers along with eight or nine extras, a steersperson and a drummer who keeps all the paddlers in time. The credit union dragon boat team will hit the water in Harrison Hot Springs on July 25.
