Twenty-two Pee Wee racers converged at Becker Mountain this past Sunday to participate in the Okanagan Hare Scrambles 50 cc and 65 cc classes at the annual Full Throttle race.

The course was dusty but these racers, aged five to 10 years old, lived up to the name of the race by twisting the throttle and providing great entertainment for parents and spectators with terrific racing style and a few spectacular crashes.

The Vernon Off Road Motorcycle Club held this very successful event, with 146 racers showing up to participate in the morning and afternoon races.

Winning the 65 cc class was True Romeo from Revelstoke with Jack Christiansen taking second place and McKinley Skinner, both from Vernon, receiving third.

First place in the 50 cc class went to Owen McKill of Vernon with Derek Allanson of Penticton placing second and Jesse Insley from Kelowna third.

The Pee Wee series is sponsored by DCT Chambers Trucking and Diana’s Monogramming, providing the winners with medals and all racers with goodie bags at every event. This weekend, Vernon Motorsports donated Camelbaks to the Pee Wee series.

The next “step up” from the Pee Wee class is the 85 cc small wheel class with Brodie McGrady taking first, Brandon McClelland, second and Ty Schulte third.

The Jr. Under class is very popular this year with Tyler Hanghofer in first place, Justin Backus in second and Matthew Bennett in third.

M&M Performance gave out “Honda Bucks” to the first three Honda riders in certain morning classes.

Even if you don’t make it to the podium, you can still earn Honda Bucks. Valley Moto Sport pulls their race trailer to every event. If you have a breakdown, go see the folks at the Valley trailer and they will get you back out on the course.

Okanagan Hare Scrambles Series has a class for every member of the family with 2 ladies classes, classes for teenagers, Mom’s and Dad’s and we haven’t forgotten about the really fast guys either, the pro class. The format is a single track, cross country style race with each class completing a set number of laps of their course.

Our next race is September 13th in Salmon Arm. Stop in at your local motorcycle dealer for more information or email wendydyck@telus.net.
