The SOYSA U18 Girls Pinnacles team came away from the B provincial soccer tournament with a silver medal.
The tournament was held in Trail from July 3 to 6. In round robin play, the Pinnacles beat Terrace 5-1, rallied from trailing Richmond 3-1 to tie them 3-3 and shut out Nelson 2-0.
Kim Conway, Amy Buzikievich, Melissa Bilko and Sara Miller each scored two goals during regulation play.
The Pinnacles then had to come together late Saturday afternoon for a penalty shootout with Richmond to determine which team advanced to the gold medal match.
Katrina Dittmann was outstanding in net for the Pinnacles during the shootout with two tremendous saves.
Conway, Katie Filek, and Lana Golin scored for the Pinnacles to put them through to the final game against North Vancouver.
Although the Pinnacles dominated the play against North Vancouver, they had to settle for a silver medal losing the game 3-0. All three of North Vancouver’s goals were scored on set plays from free kicks.
The coaches were extremely proud of the outstanding sportsmanship and level of play displayed by the Pinnacles over the entire tournament.
It was a great finish to a fantastic season.
