SOSA hosts popular event this weekend
They might not be sailing the seven seas, but boating enthusiasts will ply the waters of Okanagan Lake this weekend.
Pam Hinchliffe, treasurer of the South Okanagan Sailing Association, says this Saturday, Aug. 9 will kick off their annual Invitational Regatta. Racing will continue on Sunday.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Western Canadian 505 Championships as well.
There will also be a keel boat event held in cooperation with the Summerland Yacht Club.
Approximately 60 boats are expected for the two days of racing.
The event will feature a range of single and multihull dinghy classes.
Hinchliffe says the number of races they are able to hold is dependent on the winds each day.
They are hoping to have up to nine races over the weekend.
She says the regatta has become a popular event over the years which shows in the number of returning participants.
Sailors from Western Canada are expected during the event.
Hinchliffe says they are hoping for great racing with good winds.
