Kids Fishing Derby gets great turnout

The annual Kids Fishing Derby sponsored by the Summerland Sportsman’s Club was held at Garnett Valley Dam as part of the Action Festival on Sunday, June 8.
A total of 67 children, 12 years of age and younger took part in the derby. The club’s oldest member, Roy Bertram, 100 years of age, was there helping as always.
The following are the prize winners: Genevieve Jenkins, 11/2 years of age — youngest participant; Shaelyn Piipari, age three, — the first fish of the day without any assistance; Windon Danavoich, 11, — largest fish at 29.5 cm; C. Keys, age five, — the second biggest fish at 28.2 cm; Faith McDonald, age 11, — third largest fish at 27.6 cm; Michael Schram, four, — caught the fourth biggest fish at 25.6 cm; Steven Warren — caught fifth biggest fish at 25 cm; Tom Phillips, eight, — caught the sixth biggest fish at 18.6 cm and Alex Van Herwaarden, 11, caught the seventh biggest fish at 17.3 cm.
The winners of the lucky draws were Natalie Rumball, Jackson Armes, Nik Vandry, Trista Algar, Carter Kravic, Silvie Cormillot and D. Skarbo.
The Sportsman’s Club would like to thank the Market Place IGA for donating hotdogs and juice as they have done for each derby since the beginning and the Trout Creek Esso for the worms which are an important part of fishing.
A good time was enjoyed by all.
