Spring is here and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. is gearing up to make 2008 a great year for sport fishing.

“We’ve been working all winter to ensure that fishing in the Okanagan is better and more diverse than ever,” says Summerland Trout Hatchery manager Mark Siemens.

The Summerland Trout Hatchery is planning a wide range of activities aimed at improving sport fishing in the Central Okanagan including:

o Raising and releasing more than 600,000 rainbow trout, brook char.

o Stocking more than 130 lakes and streams.

o Creating more than a dozen urban fishing opportunities by stocking selected lakes in close proximity to urban centres.

o Stocking four special purpose fishing ponds.

o Providing our highly successful Learn to Fish Program to more than 1,500 local kids and the young at heart.

“This year we’re really focusing on working with our many partners to provide appropriate fishing opportunities for anglers of all ages and skill levels,” says Siemens.
