Young singer's performance delightful

Dear Editor:

This is our third year in Summerland and our second Action Fest.

My husband and I and our three young children went to the Action Fest parade and enjoyed the fun with all of the people around us.

After the parade we took our lunch over to the park in time for the 11-12 Mariah Gauthier concert.

Our kids don’t go to Giant’s Head School so we hadn’t heard of Mariah before.

We read about her in the program, and I’m not sure what I was expecting, but having an eight-year-old myself, I don’t think I was expecting very much.   How could a young eight-year-old girl do a one hour concert?

I have to say that Mariah was  delightful/fantastic/adorable/genuine, and when we heard her start to sing, we were shocked — in a good way.

What we liked the most was that she was so sweet and natural whether she was speaking to the crowd or singing.

She obviously was not stuck on herself and probably doesn’t know how wonderful she is.

She had everyone wrapped up in her songs and her love of doing what she does on stage.

She was like a fresh little breeze on a hot day because her songs didn’t talk about love affairs or drinking or anything else that pop songs seem to be about today.

All of her songs were about living a dream and being happy, and making the most of your life.

She was much more than we could have imagined, and what a superb role model for our children. They loved her.

We bought one of Mariah’s CDs and it’s been playing almost constantly since our kids heard her sing on Saturday.

We all need more of this for our kids to listen to.  There’s so much musical junk out there today.

Mariah, you are a special girl with a special talent. Just keep doing what you are doing, exactly the way you are doing it.

Someday our little town of Summerland will be on the map because of you.

Let’s all support Mariah and let’s have more entertainment for children next year.
