Council will hold another open house on the design of the proposed improvements to Prairie Valley Road and Rosedale Avenue.

At the municipal council meeting on Monday evening, council passed a resolution to direct staff to organize the open house, prior to the consultant completing the final design of the project.

This will be the second open house on the work this year.

Mayor Janice Perrino said the design work must be completed before grant money will be given.

“We don’t have the grant money yet and until we have the grant money, we can’t move ahead on this project,” she added.

Coun. Ken Roberge said the design work will mean construction can take place quickly once the funding is in place.

“This will have us ready to go when the day comes,” he said.

The improvements to the two roads will include adding sidewalks and reconfiguring traffic lanes on Rosedale Avenue and the portion of Prairie Valley Road between Highway 97 and Rosedale Avenue.

Last year, a resolution to borrow up to $5 million for the proposed upgrade work was defeated when a petition with 1,676 signatures was presented to council.

The municipality has applied for grant funding to pay for the upgrades.
