Watering restrictions unchanged

While other Okanagan communities are coping with dangerously low water levels this year, officials in Summerland do not anticipate further watering restrictions at present.
Scott Lee, water operations manager for the municipality, said the community still has 89 per cent of full storage in its water system.
“A lot of places are far lower than that,” he said.
In south east Kelowna, the water level is at 57 per cent of normal levels.
Penticton and the Greater Vernon Water District are also coping with low water levels.
In June, before the reservoirs stopped spilling, the municipality issued Stage 2 watering restrictions.
Under Stage 2 restrictions, residents are allowed to water two days a week.
Stage 1 restrictions allow watering three days a week.
The restrictions affect residential users, not agricultural users who are under different water allotments.
Watering violations, whether from residential or agricultural users, are being referred to the bylaw enforcement officer.
“We’re not saying we don’t want to see water used,” Lee said. “We just don’t want to see it wasted.”
