Boat rental business not allowed at beach

A boat rental business may not operate from the Peach Orchard boat launch area.
At the municipal council meeting on Monday evening, council passed a resolution that Summerland Boat Rentals will not be allowed to operate from the launch area.
For two seasons, the boat rental business has been looking for a lakefront location.
In a memo to council, municipal administrator Don DeGagne said the nature of the business will interfere with the use of the boat launch by local boaters and tourists.
Parking is also at a premium and as a result, is already spilling onto the street.
He added that liability would be an issue for a business operating on public property.
The motion to deny the request was passed unanimously. Coun. Gordon Clark was not present at the meeting.
