A community group tired of the trash in the Trapper’s Flats area took matters into their own hands last weekend.
Kinsman Charlie Reid said he and eight other members of the club, along with two children, hauled more than 14,000 pounds of trash out of the area in slips and a truck on June 20.
The presence of a dump truck and bobcat operator helped the group move large amounts of waste.
“I’m tired of going up there and seeing all the trash.”
Reid said the garbage strewn across the site ranged from barbed wire and broken bottles to a burnt fibreglass boat.
“Someone went there twice and dumped a whole whack of used tile.”
Reid and other Kinsmen also pulled down close to half a kilometre of barbed wire. He noted that the club will be returning to the area in the fall, and would like to try and get as many other service groups as possible to pitch in.
“75 people would be great, we could actually do some damage up there.”
Reid pointed out there are many user groups consistently in the Trapper’s Flats area, from horse riding groups to all-terrain vehicle users.
