A new organization has been formed to help Summerlanders attempting to lose a little extra weight.

Adele Meadow said the club meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the library basement.

She explained that she started the club in order to provide support.

“It’s really hard to lose weight on your own,” she said. “I thought it would be nice to have a group of people doing this together.”

The club started as the result of a Herbalife initiative, but Meadow said it does not promote the purchase of special products or supplements.

Instead, the initiative was done to help Canadians lose a total of a million pounds.

Each week, Meadow records the amount of weight lost by the Summerland group in the challenge.

She added that a weight loss manual has been provided. The manual provides information on the importance of protein, drinking adequate water and other items about weight loss.

However, she added that the participants do not have to follow a specific plan. Instead, the information provided is more general.

“This is a life-long change,” she said.

At present, only a few people have joined the weight loss initiative, but others are welcome.

Those interested are asked to e-mail adelemeadow@yahoo.ca or call 250-494-0690.
