The Summerland Kiwanis Club celebrated 60 years of service last week with a luncheon and with the presentation of a plaque in memory of the last charter member.

The plaque was given to the Hallquist family. Jerry Hallquist, who died earlier this year, was an active member of the club from its inception.

Over the years, the service club has been active in numerous community activities, festivals and fund-raising initiatives.

The Read To Me program, a Kiwanis initiative, is still active at Giant’s Head School.

On Oct. 17, the club will sponsor the Kiwanis Health Fair at the Summerland Seniors’ Drop-in Centre from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The club holds its meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month a noon at the Kiwanis Lodge on Quinpool Road.
