School offers art courses

Register now for Art and Creativity Classes this fall and winter. Okanagan School of the Arts offers classes for Children and Adults. Certificate programs for children ages seven to 12 years with Judith Rackham, Cindi Tomochko and Chandra Wong; Rags To Rugs with Barbara Younger; Big and Small for parents and children three or older, Abstract Acrylics with Jenny Long; Capture the World in Acrylics with Angie MacIntosh; Scheduled Private Lessons with Judith Rackham; Open Studio Drop In Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings, to list a few.

Class sizes are limited to six, early registration is recommended.

Speaker series


Speakers Series at the Lecture Theatre of the Penticton Campus of Okanagan College.  Mondays: Oct. 19, Nov. 2, 16, 30 and Dec. 7.

Topics will include astronomy with DRAO, waste reduction in the South Okanagan and films.

Art reproduction

Everything you wanted to know about reproducing your artwork plus more — don’t miss this special presentation with Rob Leggatt of Big Pics, Kelowna. The Okanagan Digital Artist group is having a special meeting on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Summerland Art Gallery.

Symphony 

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra will premiere one of Penticton composer/musician Ernst Schneider’s compositions – Concerto for Piano and Orchestra at its season opening concert at the Cleland Theatre in Penticton on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.  

Schneider is a Penticton-based composer whose lush romantic melodies shine in this passionate work now catalogued in the Canadian Music Centre.

Local pianist Arnold Draper, a valley favourite, has been tapped to perform the premiere.  

The performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and Wagner’s Prelude to the opera Die Meistersinger, makes the concert season opening a grand opening. Visit http://okanagansymphony.com/.

Art exhibit
Wet on Wet Art Exhibit. A Red Dot Affair featuring works by Kate Kimberly and Dona Smithson at Leir House, 220 Manor Park Ave.  This show runs until Oct. 29.
