Musical deals with water shortage

Imagine a time when the water supply is so low that private bathrooms no longer exist. Pay-as-you-go public toilets are the rule and those who cannot pay are exiled to Urinetown, never to return.
From Aug. 4 to 8, the Gala Productions will be presenting the Tony award winning Broadway comedy, Urinetown – the Musical. Described as “a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold,” this musical comedy is about a city in the midst of a drought so devastating that a malevolent corporation has been able to take control of all the toilet facilities and charge admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.
So if you’re in town in August, don’t miss Urinetown — the Musical, starring David Kopp, Pat Manders, Jo Pounder, Brittany Bell, Holly Brazzale and directed by Linda Beaven with musical direction by Chris Barron. Set design by Genie award winner Janice Blackie-Goodine.
Tickets are $15 per person (the Aug. 4 performance is $10 Tuesday) available at Summerland’s Sweet Tooth Cafe, 13211 Victoria Rd. N., the Summerland Community Arts Council, 9533 Main St. as well as Penticton’s WINGS Thrift Store, 456 Main St., Penticton.
Proceeds will go to the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.
