Contest includes short fiction and poetry writing
Published: July 23, 2008 6:00 PMThe Penticton Writers and Publishers are hosting the 2008 Clem Battye Legacy Award Writing Contest opened to Short Fiction and Poetry.
Two cash prizes of $100 will be awarded, one to each category. The contest is open to writers of short fiction of up to five pages and poets with up to five poems, one per page. The Clem Battye Legacy Award was established in 2001. Members of Penticton Writers and Publishers are not eligible to enter. To enter, send a cover page listing the author’s name, address, phone and e-mail and a one paragraph bio along with the entry. Manuscripts must meet industry standards. The author’s name should not appear on the work. The deadline is July 31 and there is a $10 entry fee. “The Shape of Seven – Out of the Basket” featuring works by the Okanagan Basketry Guild members opens at the Summerland Art Gallery Thursday, July 24 and continues until Aug. 23.
Kids art courses
‘Colour it Green’, an environmentally friendly Summer Arts Program for kids still has some room in some programs including Heritage Footprints (Aug. 5 - 8, ages 8+, which includes a visit to the museum, story telling, designing a family tree, and painting a family portrait); and Clay Works (Aug. 11-15, ages 7-9, creating and painting clay bird houses, bird feeders, wind chimes and more.)
