Firefighters collect for toy drive

Volunteers with the Summerland Fire Department are collecting Christmas gifts for children once again as part of an annual drive.
The 22nd annual Toys and Toonies for Tots and Teens will provide presents for children and teens within the community.
Donations are already coming in at the fire hall.
Gifts are also being collected at Trout Creek School, Giant’s Head School, Summerland Montessori School and The Glenfir School.
George Pugh, a Summerland firefighter, said new unwrapped toys will be collected for the drive.
The firefighters are also collecting Canadian Tire money as well as cash donations.
He explained that while it is relatively easy to find appropriate gifts for children, it is much harder to find something appropriate for teens. For that reason, the money donations are needed.
The firefighters will be collecting toys and donations at the Festival of Lights.
In addition, the annual eggs benedict breakfast will be held at the Carrot Top Diner on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 8 to 11 a.m.
All proceeds will go to the toy drive. The fire department, Carrot Top Diner and Marketplace IGA are working together on the breakfast.
The last of the toys will be picked up on Dec. 16.
