Camp given grant
A province-wide facility for children and adults with special needs and their families has been awarded a $100,000 Direct Access Capital Grant.
The Agur Lake Camp Society has been awarded a $100,000 Direct Access Capital Grant Rick Thorpe, MLA Okanagan-Westside announced Saturday at a champagne reception at the Penticton Ramada Inn. The reception recognized the contributions of volunteers and supporters.
“The Agur Lake Camp Society is an outstanding community organization demonstrating leadership with their vision to support children with special needs and life-limiting conditions,” says Thorpe. “It has been an honour to work with the society to achieve this grant.”
Agur Lake Camp is the only program of its nature in British Columbia. It will provide family respite and recovery, education, and a barrier-free facility for children with special needs and their families.
“This grant came at just the right time. Now we can immediately proceed with site preparation and finalize our building plans,” says Penny Ritchie, camp society president.
The site is 15 kilometres west of Summerland.
