A new restaurant and lounge on Lakeshore Drive has put its local focus into its name.

Cameron Bond, general manager of Local Lounge and Grill, said the tag line, “Eat local, drink local, be local,” will be the focus of the new establishment.

Executive chef Paul Cecconi said the menu items will feature as many B.C. ingredients as possible.

“Produce will be a challenge through the winter,” he added.

Bond said the renovations to the building have been underway since April.

“Summerland needed a place that was upscale,” he said. “All we’ve done is brought out the potential of the place. Now we have to deliver.”

He added that the restaurant and lounge is designed to provide a comfortable setting and good value.

In addition to the restaurant and lounge, Bond has also set up a liquor store at the Summerfair shopping centre on Prairie Valley Road.

A larger store, beside Marketplace IGA, is in the works. Once completed, it will feature 450 square metres of floor space, making it the largest liquor store in the community.

In addition to a selection of beverages, it will have a tasting bar and a show kitchen.

Bond wants to bring in chefs from time to time to provide some cooking instruction. “We’re not just building a liquor market,” he said. “We’re building a food and beverage education facility.”

Bond hopes the new restaurant, lounge and liquor market will draw people from around the Okanagan.
