Posse play a rough & tumble game
A fast--paced hard hitting game of hockey was in store for Posse fans Tuesday night in a hometown battle. The Kamloops Storm came with their game face on. The Posse team has played a good season so far and fans were anxious to watch the competitive rivalry between the two tough teams.
“They are our Lex Luther,” joked Coach Dale (Duner) Hladun. The first period saw a lot of puck movement up and down the ice to both ends with some good shots on goal by both teams. Less than four minutes into the period, the Kamloops Storm opened the scoring. Brett Defrias received a pass from Justin Fulton that slid by the Posse goalie Jeff Daniels.
Daniels was in no mood for a repeat and managed to end the period with only one goal in his net. The second period the Posse came out with a flurry of skating and shots on goal, but again the Storm drew blood. At 9:25 Bevin Ollek shot one into net. Just over a minute later the Posse brought the score to within one. Chad Brears #17 played a great shift and after #20 Ben Mcrean passed the puck up to #9 Evan Stack, Brears finished the play and boosted the team’s spirits. The second period ended with no further goal scores, however the Posse made many great shots on a hot Storm goalie Anthony Manfredi.
Just under two minutes into the third period Dayton Shaw #23 capitalized on a pass from #18 Danny Hillman and tied the game. Lee Muir also received an assist on the goal. The two teams spent much of the remainder of the period in hot pursuit of the puck. Both teams badly wanted to pull their team ahead. With only 4:15 left in the third Assistant Captain Taylor Stuart shot one by the Posse goalie. The Posse battled hard until the end, but the Storm goalie was impenetrable.
“I was pretty proud of our efforts,” said Coach Duner. “We deserved a better outcome, but that’s what happens when you run into a hot goalie.”
Duner was optimistic for his team. “It’s all practice until the play-offs. We are trying to maximize the education value of each game. The lesson learned against Kamloops and other strong teams is we have to be more accountable every shift because any one of them can change the game.”
