It’s time to start the voting
Months of story submissions by residents more than willing to brag about a town they love have put Princeton deep in the race towards a Gamestown 2010 victory. While locals can still submit their stories of Princeton on the Gamestown 2010 website, at Gamestown2010.ca, the voting period has begun. Any community in B.C. that failed to enter at least one story by October 31 is officially out of the competition. For the rest of B.C. it is game on.
Every community who has entered has uploaded stories of how communities and individuals are making a difference through healthy living, supporting sport and other important programs, environmental sustainability and the Olympic Games Spirit. There are photos and YouTube video clips to peruse that burst with not only community pride, but pride as a Canadian. Many of the stories touch our hearts, lift our spirits and showcase communities better than one person ever could. Collectively people from all over B.C. have found something to brag about proving that to British Columbians, B.C. really is the best place on Earth.
Every person in B.C. should have to read the stories. Some are historical, some are amazing, some are beautiful and others are just fun. The contest has grown into a breathing living story book of beautiful B.C. and the beautiful people that make it have such a strong heart. It is no coincidence that the stories are plentiful because so is the pride.
The Viewer’s Choice voting period started Nov. 1 and runs through until Jan. 4, 2010. We all need to vote for Princeton and continue highlighting the pride we feel for our town. Once the voting period ends the top ten communities – two from each population category will go before a celebrity judging panel made up of Canadian Olympians and CTV’s Dr. Rhonda Low. A gold medal win will mean a $100,000 win for the chosen community, silver will mean $50,000 and bronze will mean $25,000. Winning communities will receive tickets to the 2010 Winter Games.
So vote and keep submitting. Creativity and enthusiasm are part of the judging. Princeton has a very good chance of winning. Over the last week, Princetonites submitted 31 more stories bringing our total up to 282. Lets make it happen.
