Twelve days is all we have left. The closing date for submissions is October 31. Top prize is $100,000 dollars.

The GamesTown 2010 contest is drawing to a close and the people of Princeton have been doing a great job of bragging about the town they live in. In fact, as of October 9, 227 entries have been submitted by proud residents of our community. For a while, we were running neck and neck with Powell River, but in the last couple of weeks locals have really stepped it up a notch and Powell River is still sitting at 130 submissions. Houston is not far behind Powell River. They have 124 submissions. Kamloops is at 108. Port Coquitlam is in seventh place with 90 entries.

Presently. there is only one community with more submissions than Princeton. West Vancouver has made 319 entries on the GamesTown webpage. The next step after the final submission push is to designate the top ten communities by population size. There are entries in 1) up to 5,000, 2) 5,001-10,000, 3) 10,001-25,000, 4) 25,001-100,000 and 5) population over 100,000. Each population category will have two top winners.

There will be a voting period from November 1 to January 4. The top 10 communities will then, be examined by a panel of celebrity judges. Starting on January 5, the celebrity judges will review all the submissions by these communities and finalize the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners of GamesTown 2010. Three cash prizes will be awarded to the top three. First prize is $100,000. Second prize is $50,000 and third prize is $25,000. The cash prize will be awarded for the upgrading of a local sport or healthy living facility of the community’s choosing.
