Fire Deptarment
The Princeton Volunteer Fire Department has had a busy year. Along the way they have picked up a couple of new members. For the last 10 years the crew have averaged approximately 85 calls per year. This year they have already surpassed that number by 95. “It is just a busy year,” said Fire Chief Eric Gregson.
Inside the fire hall, the response system has gone hi-tech. “We have computerized all training and response records and inventories,” Gregson said. “It helps us to keep track of things more effieciently.”
Eight members will be going to Kamloops on a Live Burn Training Exercise in November and the crew just had Hazardous Materials Awareness Training. They have been working on upgrading the hall to accommodate both women members and handi-capped visitors. “We are in process of completing that renovation,” said Gregson.
The fire crew responded to fires at Round Lake, Brookmere and east of Hedley, but there biggest fire was at the Co-Gen Plant. “It took us about 14 hours,” Gregson stated. The Town Fire Inspector was back inspecting commercial properties and making recommendations to the building owners. “We have had a busy year. We got a new hose tester which will be used to do our annual hose tests. All hoses must be tested to make sure they are usable.” Next for this busy volunteer group is the Get out Alive Program they will be implementing at John Allison Elementary and Vermilion Forks School.
