Mustangs ready to attack valleys

Home sweet home.

At least the Princess Margaret Mustangs senior girls volleyball team hopes so as they host the valley championship this weekend.

Head coach John Buckley and assistant Nadeen Halls have been working the group so it doesn’t fold under pressure. Buckley and Halls want to see the players fighting for important turning points.

“When the score is around 20 and within a few points of each other, we've concentrated a lot of our efforts on fine tuning our passing on service reception so that we capitalize on our attacking options — creating more chances for our hitters to finish off a rally for us,” explained Halls. “We have put some solid effort into attacking from both our front and back row and our hitters are going to be tough to stop. Most importantly, we feel like our girls have really come together the last few weeks and we are excited that they seem to be 'peaking' at the right time.”

The Mustangs intend to use their serve as an attacking opportunity rather that just putting the ball in play. The coaches feel they have very strong servers and are going to look to those girls to capitalize.

“We both anticipate that we will come out really strong for the weekend and are looking forward to playing on our home court with the support of our fans,” said Halls.

The Mustangs begin their pursuit of a valley championship at 1:30 p.m today. Their other matches are at 5:15 and 7:45 p.m. Saturday playoff matches will be decided once the games are finished on Friday. Saturday games begin at 9 a.m. with the final game at 2:45 p.m.
