Andrew Drouin couldn’t be happier as he talked about the inaugural Fall Bike Festival.

The Penticton Cycling Club president said the festival, held Sept. 25-27, was a huge success as participants enjoyed events such as the Lake to Lake Cruise, Cyclocross Race Event and XC Poker Race Derby.

“All three went better than expected and we will do it again next year and improve on it,” said Drouin. “There was lots of positive comments.”

Thirty-one people competed in the XC Poker Derby Race on the Carmi Recreational Trail system, which people were pleased with.

Drouin had uncertainty on how many would attend since there were no presales. Another positive Drouin noted was that riders didn’t have to deal with flat tires and injuries didn’t slow them down. Several raved about the Poker Derby as they liked the course length and technical challenge.

The big factor was that inexperienced riders could complete in it also. The event was set up in a manner which riders only needed to get good poker hands. To do that, participants needed to complete silly stunts to get cards.

Next year Drouin would like to increase the size of the course and improve the stunts.

The highlight for him, however, was the people who came to support the Fall Bike Festival. Drouin also praised the volunteers and businesses who gave support including Freedom, The Bike Shop and The Bike Barn, which played large roles. To learn more about the Penticton Cycling Club, go to
