The Princess Margaret Sr. Girls Mustangs volleyball team placed second during a Tier 2 championship.

The Mustangs lost to a strong Selkirk Storm team during a 32-team tournament held Sept. 24-25 in Kamloops. On Saturday, the Mustangs defeated St. Ann’s of Kamloops, AAAA Salmon Arm Jewels and a strong Brocklehurst AA team from Kamloops.

Friday’s round matches saw the Mustangs surprise AAAA Elgin Park of Whiterock by forcing them to come from behind to win 25-23, 25-21. Maggie lost a nailbiter to Westsyde 25-17, 18-25, 15-13. In their third pool play match, the Mustangs stormed out to a 20-14 lead over provincially ranked Fulton maroons only to see early season nerves takeover as Fulton fought out a 25-22,25-21 victory.

Coach John Buckley said he is very pleased with the depth and effort from his 14 players. The Mustangs confidence under pressure improved the most over the weekend. The team displayed intense defense and excellent team spirit.

The Mustangs look forward to hosting a senior girls/junior girls Mustang Mania tournament on Friday, Oct. 2-3.
